Required Items for Installation
Before beginning, ensure you have the following items on hand to guarantee a successful installation:
- Soap and warm water with paper towels or a clean, lint-free rag (for initial window cleaning).
- Isopropyl alcohol (a 50/50 alcohol-water solution) for the final window prep. Note: No other cleaner should be used, as alternative solutions can severely degrade the adhesive strength of the mounting hardware.
- A wax crayon, soft lead pencil, or marker (to mark hardware placement).
- A putty knife and/or a flat-head (slotted) screwdriver (may not apply to all applications).
- Vise-Grips (may not apply to all applications).
- Automotive silicone (black or clear) to apply around all edges of the hardware mounting plates, preventing moisture from undercutting the tape.
Crucial Tape Bonding Information
Proper adhesion is critical. Failure of the tape bond is typically attributed to one of four factors:
- Poor surface preparation or incorrect application technique.
- Poor adhesive contact (e.g., touching or contaminating the exposed adhesive side of the tape, or failing to apply sufficient pressure).
- Adhesive undercutting caused by prolonged exposure to high humidity, cold temperatures, or the omission of the recommended silicone sealant.
- Premature driving, which subjects the vehicle to wind and vibration before the tape has fully cured. Do not drive the vehicle for a minimum of 24 hours after installation.
CRITICAL: Make sure you read the instruction manual completely before starting the installation process.
